Auchinleck is a small town situated between the Ayrshire towns of Mauchline and Cumnock, Scotland. The lawyer and diarist, James Boswell, had his home close to the village in Auchinleck Estate. The village has long been associated with the coal mining industry, and the village was extended after World War II into an area called Back Rogerton, bounded by the disused Rogerton Quarry. This quarry is now a public park and houses a multi-use games area.
The closure of the nearby pits at High House and Barony had a severe impact on the village in the early 1990's, but the village is rebuilding itself and looking forward once again to a bright future.
Auchinleck has many other attractions which you may like to visit during the Festival weekend: the entrance to Dumfries House, where there are some beautiful walks, the Barony A Frame and the Boswell Museum are all found along the Barony Road. The Talbot Garden in Church Road is also worth a visit as is the Trim Trail (Entrance in Stoner Crescent or Cameron Drive)
